European Ads
Europe is known for being a little bit more relaxed than the United States. While they are strict on violence on television, they are lenient with romance and nudity. American companies, therefore, take a different approach to advertising their goods and services in Europe than they do in the United States. The slide show in this blog entry highlights 59 advertisements that won awards for creativity and innovation.
Many of the companies advertising are popular names: Google, Nestle, Nike, etc.

Making Use of Context
There is a theme in many of the advertisements in the slide show: many make great use of space and their context. For example, the ads on shopping bags worked well within the context of being held by a person. The sports and beverages ads went outside the little rectangle or square ads are traditionally contained to.
In Columbus, OH, we don't see ads like this, especially ads that require modification of buildings such as the Adidas big soccer ball ad that's smashed into a building. The ad for the paint, where the bucket is spilling off the wall of the building and onto cars, that I have seen in larger US cities. But many of the other ads are not to be found in the United States. Why? I can only speculate. However, the majority of Europeans live in cities, and their attitudes and sense of humors might make more room for creativity and risk taking advertising.
My Favorites
The anti-smoking ads were very creative, for example, utilizing the tail pipe of a bus. This ad only would work within the context of a bus.
I thought the ad for the Economist, which our Global Business professor has us reading every week now, was very clever. When a person walks under a big light bulb, normally off, it lights up! Clever!
The Google billboard ad, picturing a woman in a bikini with the tag line "We Know Exactly What You Have Been Searching For," with the OO letters in the word Google conveniently and precisely missing, would not ever be shown in the United State advertising market for its boldness. This makes it special and fun.
What's Your Pick?

A special thanks to my Fisher corporate mentor for sending the ads to me.

This slideshow was VERY interesting! And I have to agree with the person who commented before me. I actually took a picture of the Nationwide/Coop's paint ad while walking down High Street one fine summers day. Other than that, this piece certainly kept me very entertained...:)
OH and my most favorite one has to be the lime peeing in the Pepsi twist. I found it very amusing.
You're the greatest blogger alive. All mankind should check your work daily and if there's nothing new, then we all should go back and read your great contributions over and over again. And "Aubs" kinda burned you! Ouch man!
No, Aubs didn't burn, she just fell into my little trap :) - write something totally incorrect and ignorant to create controversy...muhahahaha! Just kidding, she caught an error that got past the editors who were asleep at the wheel.
Maybe my blog should have one of those warnings that medicines always have in commercials:
"Reading this blog may cause you nausea, headaches, frustration, low pay, embarrassment, lack of sleep, or intense desire to be sarcastic."
